Driving by Toscana 52 yesterday, Dennis and I noticed that this week’s featured menu (they feature a different menu each of the 52 weeks) was “Caesar’s Rome, 44 BC.” So we had to go there for dinner, to check it out. We tried each of the featured wines, the Emperor’s Starter, and Dennis had the Roman Mussels & Clams.
Perhaps our waiter knew that there were no “emperors” in 44 BC, because he kept referring to the dish as “Caesar’s starter.” We found the options quite tasty, especially considering the somewhat odd combination of flavors (the sweet with the savory). Here is an information page from the restaurant explaining how they designed the menu. Neither of us is an expert in ancient cuisine, however, so we’d love to hear from some people who are to tell us how authentic the restaurant’s try was.
