What a dangerous thing! What then will the Classics Majors do when they need not guess these things over the course of several years? Learn their participles?
No Housman? Is he not major, or does he not have a broad appeal?
Housman is by far my favorite classical scholar. I don’t know why he wasn’t on the list. He was probably too obvious. There are some other choices that I myself find puzzling.
But rest assured, March Madness of Classical Badness is coming! (And Housman will be there.)
Missing a few, IMHO. Among them Page duBois, Simon Goldhill, Mary Beard, Helen Morales and James Porter. The bracket idea sounds cool, though. How would you decide who advances?
There are loads of names missing, but I was just trying to test using Google Docs to post to the blog as an alternate platform for certain kinds of material. This odd, old document seemed innocuous enough.
We’re hashing out the details of the bracket (which is just for fun, obviously), but we’ll likely set up some kind of a vote.
